I am the 4th grade homeroom teacher, and I also teach 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Language Arts. This includes Spelling, English, and Reading for all three grades, and also Handwriting and Tech for 4th grade.

In my classroom, students are expected to turn in their homework into their respected homework baskets upon entering the classroom. Late work will be docked 5% each day that it is late. If corrections need to be completed, homework will be given back and they can receive 1/2 credit for that assignment/test.

All 4th graders will receive a red homework folder from me on the first day of school. In order to help with organization, I have divided the homework folder into 2 categories. The left hand side of the folder will be for homework, long term project assignments, study guides, parent notes, etc that need to come back to school. The right hand side of the folder is for mail and graded assignments that need to stay home. Mail is sent home everyday, so this red folder needs to be looked at and cleaned out every day. This helps with folder clutter and to not accidentally throw homework away.

All students are required to take AR tests after reading a book and meet individual point goals. They are also required to read at least 11 different genres (Autobiography, Biography, Fantasy, Folktale, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Nonfiction, Poetry, Realistic Fiction, Religion, and Science Fiction) by the end of the school year. I am in charge of 6th Grade AR. In order to keep students from scrambling at the end of the year, I require that students get 6 genres by the end of the 1st semester, then the last 5 by the end of the school year.

Newsletters will be posted every 2 weeks with upcoming tests, long-term projects, and activities. At the beginning of the year I will be printing a paper copy for 4th graders to practice inputting information into their student planners. This helps with knowing when tests are coming up and when long term projects are due. I also post on the web page what's going on in my classroom each week.
