We have finished our Winter Olympics and I think the kids really enjoyed participating.  They will have a couple more Olympic projects to do but we are finished with the competition part. We have now moved onto some cooperative learning games. These games help the students  learn to work in as a team  to accomplish a common goal and they also learn how to problem solve to accomplish a common task.

We are in full swing of our games units. We have played kickball, handball, matt ball just to name a few.  We are now working on a several ball skills such as dribbling for both basketball and soccer and volleying skills, which we will incorporate into another game in the next couple of weeks.

PARENTS WE ARE STILL IN OUR GAMES UNIT.  THIS UNIT WILL BE OUR LONGEST OF THE YEAR BECAUSE IT INCOPORATES SEVERAL SKILLS. WE WILL WORK ON ALL OF THE BALL SKILLS; THROWING CATCHING, KICKING AND STRIKING.  WE ARE HEAVILY FOCUSING ON THROWING AND CATCHING RIGHT NOW.  WE ARE ALSO WORKING ON DEFENSIVE AND OFFENSIVE STRATEGIES, TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN TO "READ" THE FIELD OR COURT.  STUDENTS ARE ALSO RECOGNIZING HOW FITNESS CAN BE FUN WHEN DONE IN A GAME FORMAT.

We are still in our games unit.  We started this unit last week with Matt Ball and moved on to kick ball.  While playing kick ball and matt ball I noticed a disconnect in students being able to track, catch and throw a ball accurately.  So the next few games we will be playing will be heavily focused on those specific skills.

Parents we are moving onto our games unit.  3rd grade-6th grade finished up the Nutrition/Fitness usit by taking a test on the components of fitness.  All of the classes scored very well.  The students just took their first games test on Weds. over Matt Ball.  Matt Ball is like a crazy kickball/baseball game.  We are now moving onto straight kickball and will take a rules test over kick ball next week.  Just an update from P.E.

Parents we are still going strong on our Fitness & Nutrition Unit.  We will finish up this unit in a couple of weeks.  You may have noticed that your kids have been coming home with cut out tennis shoes, I'm encouraging at least 30 mins. of outside (outside of school activity) activity to teach life long fitness.  The students need to perform 30 mins of activity then they will recieve a shoe to decorate.  Please sign it and have your student return it to school.  We will be doing this all year to try and decorate the entire gym with shoes, to show how physically fit we are as a school!!
